Due to the growing popularity of peas around the world, the pea exporter in Ukraine has to increase the exports accordingly. Peas are healthy to eat and are generally used to many cuisines leading to the increase of pea export from Ukraine. Peas can be exported in the fresh or frozen form. The Ukrainian pea exporter, export both these varieties of peas. Besides these, there are many other varieties of pea export from Ukraine.

PEA VARIETIES WE EXPORT

The pea import from Ukraine includes various varieties of peas like Asauji, Arkel, Little marvel so on and so forth. All these varieties are exported fresh and of premium quality. The export of pea include the following varieties.

ASAUJI

Asauji is a dwarf, green, and smooth seeded variety of peas. Pods in this variety are produced singly. The flowering takes place in 30-35 days after sowing. The pods of this variety of peas are about 8 cm long, curved, dark green in color, and narrow in shape. These peas appear round when fully developed and are seven seeded.

ARKEL

The Arkel variety of peas is an exotic variety from France. The plant is a dwarf but the growth is vigorous and it can grow up to 45 cm. The flowers of Arkel are white and are borne in double on few lower nodes. The pods are dark green in colour and 8.5 cm long, incurved towards the sutures with wrinkled seeds. This variety is suitable for both the fresh market and dehydration.

LITTLE MARVEL

Little marvel is a dwarf plant with wrinkled seeded introduced from England. The pods are of foliage dark green color. The first blossom appears at 9-10th node in 40 days after sowing. The pods are 8 cm long, borne singly, thick and shiny, containing 5-6 very sweet seeds.

JAWAHAR MATAR

The Jawahar Matar variety was developed at Jabalpur through the hybridization of T19 x Early Badger followed by selections. The height of the plant is 70-75 cm with a bushy growth habit. The pods are light green in color and roundish-oval in shape with 4-5 wrinkled seeds. The first picking can be started at 50-55 days after sowing.

HARBHAJAN (EC 33866)

The Harbhajan variety of peas were developed at Jabalpur by selection from the exotic genetic stock. It is an early variety and first picking can be taken in 45 days of sowing. The pods of these peas are small with yellow, round and small seeds. The average pod yield of this variety is 3 t/ha.

BONNEVILLE

Bonneville variety was introduced in the USA. It is one of the most popular varieties of peas. The plant is medium-tall in height and the flowers are mostly borne in doubles. The pods are light green, straight, big with 6-7 well-filled, sweet, bold and wrinkled seeds. It takes around 65-70 days for the first flowering and is susceptible to powdery mildew disease.

LINCON

The plants of the lincon variety are medium tall in size. It is generally double podded and the pods are dark green, curved, and big with 8-9 wrinkled seeds. First picking of this variety can start around 85-90 days after sowing. The average pod yield for this variety is around 10t/ha.

PUNJAB 88 (P-88)

The Punjab 88 variety of peas was developed at Ludhiana through selections from the hybrid progeny of the cross Pusa02 × Morriss-55. The plants of this variety are dwarf, vigorous, erect with dark green foliage. The first picking for this variation may be done after 100 days of sowing. The pods are dark green, long, and slightly curved at the center with 7-8 green, wrinkled, and less sweet seeds.

AZAD P-2

The Azad P-2 is a powdery mildew resistant variety developed at Kalyanpur through advanced generation selection from the cross Bonneville × 6587. The plants of this variety are tall, erect with light green foliage and white flowers. The pods of Azad P-2 are medium in size, light green, straight, smooth, firm borne in a cluster of two with 6-7 wrinkled and brownish seeds.

OOTY-1

The Ooty-1 developed at Udhagamandalam through pure line selection from the accession of PS 33. This plant is a dwarf type and has a yield potential of 11.9 t/ha in 90 days crop duration. The Ooty-1 is resistant to whitefly.
